A complaint with a complication.

In the video released by Howard County Police, a man approaches an officer to report that someone has taken his truck. The officer is also investigating a reported burglary at a nearby Verizon store.

The exchange changes when the officer asks where the man went, then asks to see his hands. He points to blood on the man's hands and glasses. The man denies being at the store.

Then it comes back to the truck.

Later in the agency-edited video, the conversation returns to the missing vehicle. The man says he left the keys inside. The officer calls the situation “karma.”

Two investigations. Keep them separate.

Police identified the man as Jalen Godard and reported burglary, theft and destruction-of-property charges. Those are reported allegations, not a finding of guilt. We have not verified a current court outcome.

The theft of his truck is a separate incident. The reports reviewed here did not establish who took it. Reporting a stolen vehicle neither proves nor disproves the burglary allegation.

The irony makes the encounter memorable. The missing context is why it deserves more than a punchline.
